Windows 7 Ultimate Version (Set-Up)
Enter BIOS and set Boot Order to boot from CD/DVD drive first
Starting with a “RAW” hard drive (newly formatted drive)
Start computer insert Windows 7 disk into DVD drive and reboot computer
Windows will load files creating MBR (Master Boot Record)
Choose “English” language …Next
Install Now…click arrow
Click: I accept the terms…Next
Click on Custom (advanced)
Create Hard Drive Partitions by clicking Drive Options (advanced)
Click New: using a calculator create partition size in MB…1 or more partitions are possible depending on hard drive capacity…click apply for each partition created
Click: OK that Windows might create additional partitions for system files
Click: Next for Disk 0 Partition 1…or click delete and redo partition if necessary
Installing Windows will begin automatically
Type: Username and Computer Name as per liking…click Next
Create Password or simply leave boxes blank if no password is desired
Enter Product Key from Microsoft label on Windows 7 DVD case…click Next
Click: Use recommended settings
Review time and date…make sure all is correct…click Next when done
Join Wireless Network by typing Security Key into your identified network
Choose your network option…usually Home unless other choice is necessary
Desktop Set-Up
Rt. Click Taskbar: properties make necessary changes on all three tabs as per liking
Suggestions for Properties Tabs:
Check all three boxes for Taskbar appearance
Taskbar located on Top
Customize: Network and Volume set to: Show icon and notifications
Power, Action Center and Windows Update set to: Only show notifications
Click OK
Start Menu Tab: Uncheck both Privacy boxes
Click Customize: All items are Displayed as a Link,…Check: Connect To, Favorites Menu, Home Group (see description in Control Panel otherwise click Do Not Show), Network, Recent Items, Run Command, System Administrative Tools should be checked to show on the All Programs and Start Menu
Uncheck: Use large icons
Toolbars Tab: Address and Links boxes checked
Rt. Click on Desktop:
View: uncheck Show desktop icons and Show desktop gadgets
Adjust Screen Resolution
Personalize: Choose Desktop Background
Window Color: Choose from down arrow and make all possible fonts “Bold”
Set Sounds as per liking on all related tabs
Screen Saver: None
Click Windows Start button on left corner of Screen:
Control Panel:
Action Center Tab: User Control Panel Settings...using slider set to Never Notify
Default Programs: check all boxes in each category
Folder Options: Single Click…check both Navigation Pane boxes
Indexing Options Tab: Click Modify / check "C" / click down arrow next to "C" check any open boxes so that all are checked...click OK...click Close
Internet Options Tab:
Set-Up Google as Homepage: www.google.com
Browsing History = 0 days to keep in history
Tabs: Always switch to new tabs when they are created / Enable Quick Tabs
Privacy Tab: Advanced / Override automatic cookie handling, Accept 1st Party, Block 3rd Party boxes are checked
In-Private: Do not collect data for use by In-Private Filtering
Content Tab: Auto Complete…uncheck all boxes
Advanced Tab:
Check: Always use Clear Type for HTML
Do not save encrypted pages to disk
Mouse Tab:
Double click speed is Fast
Turn on Click Lock
Pointer Options: Fast and Snap To are checked
Power Options Tab:
Choose when to turn off display: Battery-never, Plugged In- never
Windows Update Tab:
Install all updates except Language packs unless needed
System Tab:
Activate Windows online or by phone
Remote Settings: uncheck Allow Remote Assistance connections to this computer…apply
Programs and Features Tab:
Turn Windows features on or off: check ALL boxes by checking shaded boxes
Windows Firewall Tab:
Click: Advanced Settings:
Inbound Rules: rt. Click …Telnet Server / properties / Advanced / uncheck Public
Outbound Rules: rt. Click…Remote Assistance (RA Server TCP-Out) uncheck Enabled and check… Block the connection
Ease of Access Center:
Make the mouse easier to use: check / Activate a window by hovering over it with the mouse
Turn on Toggle Keys by checking box
Start Button:
Run: type msconfig
Boot Tab: change Timeout to 3 seconds (speeds up computer start up)
Click on Advanced Options: Number of processors box 2 or 4 depending on system
Maximum Memory: check box (system will add memory capacity by default)
Start-Up Tab:
Uncheck all boxes except for your Anti Virus Program…apply and reboot computer

Install Peer Block: www.peerblock.com set to start with Windows / turn off and remove logging / hide tray icon (adjust settings by rt. clicking program from start menu) / block HTTP is activated

Activate Office during set-up
Click: Office Logo Icon in upper left of Microsoft Word screen:

Click: Advanced…scroll down to General…check: Provide feedback with sound and download from Microsoft
CHECK WINDOWS UPDATE FOR ADDITIONAL UPDATES until no more updates are listed…you should run Windows Update a second and third time if necessary …(sometimes Windows Update creates more updates)
Pin commonly used programs to Start Menu:
rt. Click program name…click on Pin to Start Menu
Drag newly pinned program name to Taskbar if desired…(rt. Click on Taskbar to Unlock if necessary…rt. Click again to Lock Taskbar when finished)
